Guwahati/IBNS: Amid ongoing nationwide lockdown, the Assam Cabinet on Monday decided to allow opening shops in rural areas in green and orange zone districts in the state from April 28.

But the state cabinet has decided not to allow the opening of any markets, bazaar or haat across the state.

However, the decision is not applicable to containment areas or red zone districts of the state.

Announcing the state cabinet decisions, Assam Transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that, five districts of the state – Dhubri, Goalpara, Nalbari, Morigaon and Golaghat have been identified as red zone and lockdown orders will be continued in all containment areas.

“Today, the state cabinet has decided to allow the opening of only stand-alone shops in rural areas in green and orange zone districts from tomorrow. The state cabinet has decided not to allow the opening of any market, bazaar or haat across the state. No shop in the rural areas under green or orange zone within 5 km of the boundary of red zone will be allowed to open during the lockdown period,” Chandra Mohan Patowary said.

The Assam minister said that the state government will review decision for urban areas on May 3.

He further said that the Assam cabinet has also decided to extend the inter-district travel for stranded people in different parts of the state amid COVID-19 lockdown to May 2.
