As India enters lockdown 4.0, COVID-19 cases touch 1 lakh, over 3000 dead

New Delhi/IBNS: Escalating the tension level, India's coronavirus cases crossed the whopping mark of one lakh with over 3000 deaths across the country related to the highly contagious infection.

As India entered the fourth phase of the anti-coronavirus lockdown, the total number of positive cases in India stands at 1,00,161 with a massive number of patients being reported from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu among others.

The death toll presently touched 3,144 even as the nationwide lockdown was extended up to May 31 by the Centre.

India recorded the highest single-day jump of 5,242 new cases on Monday morning, with the total tally hitting 96,169 before it crossed the one-lakh mark.

The Narendra Modi government has ordered for observation of night curfew meaning all kinds movements have been prohibited from 7 PM to 7 AM except for emergency services.

In the fourth phase, several states have ordered opening up of the markets and stand-alone shops in a partial manner to revive the economy.

However, schools, colleges, theatres and malls would continue to remain closed.

The Centre has allowed the state government to mark their containment zones and allow economic activities in the contagion free areas.

Although it has cleared that the containment zones can only have essential services allowance.

Global scenario:

Worldwide, over 4.7 million people have been affected by the pandemic. The total number of positive cases globally touched 4,758,937. The death toll stands at 316,277.

 

The United States tops the chart in terms of infection with nearly 15 lakhs people been affected and around 90,000 deaths.
