Arun Jaitley in ICU over breathing troubles, PM visits AIIMS

New Delhi, Aug 9 (IBNS): Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has been admitted to Delhi's AIIMS hospital on Friday morning after he was suffering from breathing problems and is being currently treated in an intensive care unit of the Cardio-Neuro center, media reports said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and other leaders visited Jaitley at the hospital.

"Shri Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS today morning. He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. At present he is haemodynamically stable," a hospital release told media.

Jaitley had stepped down as the Finance Minister earlier this year citing health troubles.

He had also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep him out of his newly formed Cabinet after a kidney transplant.

Jaitley had then informed the PM that he wished to opt out of the new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over health issues.

In a letter, Jaitley had urged Modi not to give him any responsibility of the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government for now.

"I am writing to you to formally request you that I should be allowed a reasonable time for myself, my treatment and my health and, therefore, not be a part of any responsibility, for the present, in the new Government," Jaitley had wrote.
