Mumbai/IBNS: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has been summoned by Mumbai Police in connection with the investigation of an alleged rape case filed against him by actor Payal Ghosh last week, said media reports.

He has been asked to appear at the Versova Police Station on Thursday at 11 am, added media reports.

Kashyap has repeatedly dismissed the allegation as “baseless” and also issued a statement in this regard through his lawyer.

“My client, Anurag Kashyap, has been deeply pained by the false allegations of sexual misconduct that have recently surfaced against him. These allegations are completely false, malicious and dishonest,” his lawyer Priyanka Khimani had said in a statement.

Ghosh also met Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Ramdas Athawale, demanding action against Kashyap, and also met Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vishwas Nangare Patil earlier in the week, seeking security.

The actor had filed an FIR at the Versova Police Station on September 22, alleging sexual misconduct by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in 2013, after she had approached the police along with her lawyer Nitin Satpute, said reports. The actor said Kashyap raped her at a location on Yari Road in Versova.

She had questioned the delay in arresting the filmmaker, warning that she will go on a hunger strike if police takrs no cognizance of her allegation.

Media reports, citing officials having knowledge of the matter, said the FIR against Kashyap has been lodged under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 342 (wrongful confinement).

Further probe in the case has been initiated, added reports.
