Amit Shah slams Opposition over EVM tampering allegations

| @indiablooms | May 22, 2019, at 09:04 pm

New Delhi, May 22 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Wednesday ripped into the Opposition parties a day ahead of the counting over the their allegations of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering.

In a tweet, Shah posed six questions after the Election Commission turned down oppositions' request of matching the VVPAT slips with EVMs ahead of the counting of votes.

Shah questioned Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and said if the EVMs were tampered, how could the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) win 67 of 70 seats in Delhi.

Amit Shah also questioned why the opposition parties had not taken up the Election Commission's challenge for a "hackathon".

Even as the VVPATs were introduced for complete transparency, he asked, "How fair is it to question the transparency of this process again and again?"

This comes a day after twenty-two opposition parties have unitedly demanded to the Election Commission that the VVPAT (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail) machines be considered first before the counting of votes.

These 22 political parties, that are collaborating to keep the BJP out of power, earlier sought a meeting with the Election Commission after exit polls on Sunday predicted a comfortable victory for the BJP and its allies.

Twelve of 14 exit polls predicted the NDA getting full majority with seats ranging seats from 282 to 365. A party or an alliance needs 272 seats to form the government.

The counting of the votes will commence early morning on Thursday.
