Amit Shah reviews COVID-19 Control Room ops, death toll in India touches 488

New Delhi/IBNS: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reviewed the functioning of the MHA Contol Room operations and the prevailing situation of the country in fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which claimed the lives of 488 people so far and infected 14, 792.

Shah undertook a review of COVID-19 situation in various states with the officers of the control room, took their views and appreciated the exemplary work done by them.

The MHA control room is working 24*7 and not only coordinating with States but also with various ministries of the central government, to fight the epidemic.

The meeting was also attended by his two junior ministers -- G Kishan Reddy and Nityanand Rai along with Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla.

The country of 1.3 billion people is presently passing through the second phase of lockdown which was initially announced by Narendra Modi on March 24 and was later extended up to May 3 by the Prime Minister with India continuing to witness a surge in Coronavirus cases.

During Saturday's meeting, Shah was apprised about the migrant situation in various parts, where they have been provided shelters by various state governments.

He was also briefed about steps taken by the Home Ministry to enhance the capacity of these shelters.

The COVID-19 Control Room is working much like a war-room with 36 helplines operational via which anyone can call with their problem.

The NDRF and CRPF have been as well deputed in the control room to keep it functional 24x7.
