Alert Indian troops foil infiltration bid along LoC in Kupwara

Srinagar/UNI: Alert troops have foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, where a search operation has been launched to sanitise the border areas.

Meanwhile, Pakistani troops again violated ceasefire in Naugam and Tangdhar sectors, targeting forward posts and civilian areas in north Kashmir during the last 24 hours.

An Army official told UNI that troops guarding the LoC in Parkian Gali Sector in Kupwara noticed suspicious movement of 6 to 8 persons in two groups on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. 'The soldiers challenged the infiltrators and asked them to surrender,' he said, adding 'as the militants didn't adhere to the instructions, our troops fired at them'.

He said a brief exchange of fire took place following which Infiltrators ran away under the cover of darkness. 'Additional security forces were rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched in the woods in the sector to sanitise the area,' he added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has been frequently violating ceasefire along the LoC in north Kashmir, particularly in Kupwara and Baramulla districts, and along International Border (IB) in Jammu region, resulting in death and injuries to troops and civilians, besides damage to property.

Director General of Police (DGP) and senior Army officer have recently said that Pakistani troops are violating ceasefire to provide cover to militants to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to heavy snowfall. However, they said troops guarding the LoC are already on high alert to foil any infiltration attempt by militants waiting at launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) to sneak into this side.
