Agnipath Scheme should be rolled back: Congress leader Sachin Pilot

New Delhi/UNI: The Congress on Monday demanded a complete rollback of Agnipath Scheme, which was announced on June 14, 2022, terming it as a "unilateral decision of the government".

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, party leader Sachin Pilot, along with Deepender Hooda and Pawan Khera, said the scheme that was brought by the government will not benefit the country except save the government's money.

He said the party has been raising its voice against the Agnipath scheme for the last year.

Adding to that, this scheme will not benefit the youth, as at a very young age they will retire and will not be entitled to any benefits.

He further said, "On one hand, the government was saying that we are earning a lot from defence exports and have become Aatmanirbhar.

"If we have become so efficient in the defence sector, then the government should work for the welfare of the soldiers, their pensions, and the betterment of their families."

He further added that the old recruitment process will be reinstated if the INDIA Alliance comes to power.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun has written a letter to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, saying that the government was doing injustice to lakhs of youth by bringing the Agnipath Scheme and ending the regular recruitment process.

Kharge, while terming the scheme "discriminatory among the jawans," said, "The scheme is creating parallel cadres of soldiers who are expected to work on similar tasks but with different emoluments, benefits, and prospects."

Saying that youth cannot be allowed to suffer in this manner, Kharge appealed to the President to ensure that justice is done to the youth.
