After Biplab Mitra, ex-BJP Baharampur Town president Bishwarup Ghosh joins TMC; saffron camp hits back

The TMC has put up a tweet which read, "Many party workers, including Bahrampur Town President Bishwarup Ghosh, have joined the All India Trinamool Congress today. We cordially invite them to our family. Through united efforts, we will all work together to ensure the prosperity of Bengal."

This came hours after former TMC South Dinajpur district president Biplab Mitra returned to West Bengal's ruling party, a year after joining the BJP following the saffron outfit's unprecedented political surge in the 2019 General Elections.

Mitra came back to the partyfold within 10 days since TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, on Jul 21 during Martyrs' Day rally gave a call to all those who had left her party to return.

Mitra's brother Prashanta Mitra, who had also switched sides, came back to the TMC on Friday.

Hitting out at the TMC over the political development, BJP leader Jay Prakash Majumdar told India Blooms, "The leaders are switching sides because the TMC is threatening them for their lives. There is no room for a healthy democracy in West Bengal so some people are surrendering to the threats of TMC. Common people want to see the end of this unhealthy democracy which is prevailing in West Bengal.

"So there is no such political reason for switching parties. TMC is using police and administration for their narrow-minded political game which is practically the only outlook of TMC to stay in power. But actually, such changeover is not affecting the overall situation of West Bengal where a high majority of people want the change of this regime."

Following the 2019 General Elections, where the BJP had won 18 of 42 seats, several TMC leaders, councillors had joined the saffron camp.

However within months, several of the disgruntled leaders had returned to the TMC.
