'A call came from Trump and Narendra ji immediately surrendered': Rahul Gandhi's fresh jibe at PM Modi

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took a fresh swipe at Narendra Modi, stating that the Prime Minister had 'surrendered' during last month's military conflict with Pakistan following a call from United States President Donald Trump.

At an event in Bhopal, Gandhi said: "A call came from Trump and Narendra ji immediately surrendered - history is witness to this, this is the character of BJP-RSS, they always bow down.

He then referred to the 1971 India-Pakistan war, which resulted in Bangladesh's liberation and was fought when the Congress was in power.

"India broke Pakistan in 1971 despite the threat of America. The lions and lionesses of Congress fight against superpowers and never bow down," he said.

The BJP hit back with party spokesperson Tuhin Sinha telling NDTV that the remark showed Gandhi "represents Pakistan's ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence)" and is "misleading" the people.

US President Trump has repeatedly claimed that he played a key role in brokering a cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan in May.

Despite India firmly saying Trump had played no such role, the US President insisted he "sure as hell" helped and repeated his claim in a US court.

Operation Sindoor was a fierce military operation launched by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 tourists who were enjoying their vacation at Baisaran Valley, which is referred to as India's Switzerland.

The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

After the Pakistan Army again targeted Indian civilians and resorted to cross-border firing, the Indian Armed Forces retaliated, destroying defence systems of the hostile neighbour.

Following the same, India sent a total of seven all-party delegations to different countries to apprise them of the significance of Operation Sindoor and expose Pakistan's role in harbouring cross-border terrorism.
