85 killed in Assam-Meghalaya flood

Guwahati, Sept 27 (IBNS): Atleast 85 people have been killed in the recent floods and mudslides that hit Indian states of Assam and Meghalaya, NDRF said on Saturday.

A top NDRF official said that during the floods and landslides a total of 39 people were killed in Assam and 46 others died in Meghalaya.

More than five lakh people were affected in the flood in the two states.

Rescue teams of NDRF, SDRF and army had rescued over 30,000 people in the two states.

On other hand, MOS of Home Kiren Rijiju on Saturday visited the flood affected areas in Goalpara district.

The minister took stock of the situation and discussed the rehabilitation for affected people.

Rijiju said that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Assam on Oct 1 and he will also visit the flood affected areas in Goalpara, Kamrup districts of the state and Garo hills in Meghalaya.

On September 26, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had visited the flood affected areas in Goalpara district.
