India-UK Flight resumption

7 days institutional quarantine must for all UK returnees: Delhi airport

New Delhi/IBNS: The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Friday tweeted a clarification which necessitates seven days of compulsory institutional quarantine for all passengers returning from the United Kingdom.

The clarification touches upon all key information related to coronavirus testing and isolation rules for all passengers arriving on flights from the United Kingdom.

Among other points, the tweet mentions that the waiting time for Covid test results could extend up to 10 hours and that the cost of the test, and waiting period, had to be borne by the passengers.

This comes after flight services to and from the UK resumed on Friday amid chaos over last minutes changes of rules.

As per the tweet, every passenger has to undergo seven days of institutional quarantine and additional seven days of home isolation.

Delhi Airport also said all passengers coming from the UK have to undergo RT-PCR tests both at origin and on arrival at the destination.

On Friday, passengers on arrival to Delhi claimed to have faced unpleasant regulations despite "meeting all Covid appropriate behaviour."

Several also took to Twitter to highlight the situation, tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in their messages.

The Centre had suspended flight services between the UK and India on Dec 23 over the new and more contagious strain of the coronavirus that was first reported in September.

It later decided to lift the ban but a notification caused confusion which was issued after a Thursday appeal by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal - asking the centre to extend the ban on flights from the UK till January 31 - failed.

India presently has over 82 cases of the new coronavirus strain.
