17 killed as heavy rains lash Uttarakhand
Dehradun, Aug 15 (IBNS): Incessant rains in Uttarkhand since Thursday night have claimed at least 17 lives so far with incidents of cloudburst, house collapse and landslides creating havoc in Pauri, Dehradun and Pithoragarh districts of the state, reports said on Friday.
Due to heavy rains, more than 300 people are stranded in the Yamkeshwar block.
Several people have lost their lives due to flash floods.
In the Kishanpur area of Dehradun, two people were crushed under debris after their house's roof fell on them.
According to reports, 14 people lost their lives in Pauri either due to landslips or house collapse.
Rescue teams have reached the affected areas in Pauri district.
In Haridwar, the Ganga river is flowing above the danger mark, reports said.
The administration has evacuated people from the low lying Baraigi camp area.
Meanwhile, the metrological department has predicted heavy rains for another 24 hours in state.
