Vijayawada/IBNS: At least 13 people were killed and several others injured after a private travel bus collided with a tipper lorry and caught fire in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram in the early hours of Thursday, media reports said.

The accident occurred at around 6 am when the bus, travelling from Nirmal to Nellore, rammed into the truck and subsequently caught fire. Several passengers were reportedly burnt alive in the blaze.

The death toll is expected to rise. The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The bus belonged to Harikrishna Travels.

N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the tragedy and directed officials to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and submit a detailed report, his office said.

State IT Minister Nara Lokesh also mourned the loss of lives and instructed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured.

“It is heartbreaking that multiple passengers perished in the collision between the tipper and the private travels bus. Instructions have already been issued to provide necessary medical aid to the injured,” he said.
