Patiala (Punjab): A 10-year-old girl died last Sunday in Punjab’s Patiala due to suspected food poisoning after eating her birthday cake, ordered online from a bakery.

According to her grandfather Harban Lal, the entire family, including her younger sister, fell sick after consuming the cake, reported NDTV.

The video of victim Manvi, cutting the cake and celebrating with her family just hours before her tragic demise, has gone viral on social media.

The incident occurred around 7 PM on March 24, and by 10 PM the same night, the entire family experienced symptoms of sickness, including vomiting, the report said.

Manvi, in particular, complained of extreme thirst and dryness in her mouth before going to bed.

The next morning, her family rushed her to a hospital after her condition worsened.

The doctors administered oxygen to her and conducted tests like ECG (electrocardiogram) but failed to save her.

She was declared dead soon after, her grandfather said, according to the report.

The family has accused 'Cake Kanha', the bakery from which they ordered the chocolate cake, of containing a poisonous substance. An FIR has been lodged against the bakery owner.

"The postmortem of the body has been done. A sample from the cake has also been sent for testing. We are awaiting the reports," the family said, according to the NDTV report.
