Patna: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was killed during protests over the posting of teachers in the state as the police lathicharged the agitators, media reports said.

According to an India Today report, one BJP worker identified as Vijay Kumar Singh was injured during the agitation at Dakbangla Chauraha in the city.

He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him 'brought dead', the report said.

The incident was confirmed by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Modi in a tweet.

Patna Police batoncharged the demonstrators when they were holding the 'Vidhan Sabha March', said the report.

Police also used water canons and tear gas shells to scatter the BJP workers.

BJP has strongly criticised the incident and the party's national president called it an "attack democracy in order to protect the fortress of corruption".
