Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday said one of the party MLAs was injured as violence broke out in Hooghly district of West Bengal as the political outfit took out a procession on Ram Navami.

Party's West Bengal Chief Sukanta Majumdar identified the injured MLA as  Biman Ghosh.

Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar tweeted targeting the Trinamool Congress-led government of the state: "Ram Navami Shobha yatra attacked in Hooghly. The reason is simple and clear. Mamata Benerjee hates Hindus."

Writing a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said: "Bengal is going out of control. Mamata Banerjee is unable to control the riots. She is protecting a particular community and targeting Hindus."

"Wrote to Union Minister AmitShahji for immediate help in West Bengal," he said.

He further said: "A sad glimpse of how Hindus are paying the price for being Hindu in West Bengal."

"BJP MLA Biman Ghosh is badly beaten up by the goons supported by Didir police. A harsh reality to accept in the land of Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore," he said.

The injured MLA has been reportedly hospitalised.

The BJP's vice president Dilip Ghosh was present in the Shobha Yatra when the miscreants created a ruckus, reports India Today.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh tweeted: "Just see the language and attitude of the goons who are attacking people misusing the name of Lord Ram. This vdo is from Chinsura. This was a planned incident. After the day of Ramnavami, how can there be a celebration after 72 hours? All these are plots of provocation."

Last week, clashes broke out during Ram Navami processions in Howrah.

Bengal witnessed communal riots during the Ram Navami celebrations ahead of the last general elections.
