PM Modi refers to Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, triggers speculation of name change
Hyderabad/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday referred to the southern city of Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, triggering speculation of name change if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in Telangana.
Addressing the BJP's national executive meeting here, Modi said, "Hyderabad is Bhagyanagar which is a significance for all of us. Sardar Patel kept the foundation of a unified India and now it's BJP's responsibility to carry it further."
The BJP, its ideological parent body Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have been demanding the name change for a long time.
When asked whether the BJP government, if comes to power, will change the name, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said as quoted by NDTV, "When the BJP comes into power in the state, the chief minister will decide this along with the cabinet colleagues."
Modi Sunday exuded confidence that the double-engine government of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will come to power in Telangana.
He said the state would progress rapidly, if a double-engine government assumes power.
