Amarinder Singh | Afghanistan evacuation Amarinder Singh thanks Centre for 'rescuing efforts' in Afghanistan
New Delhi/IBNS: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday thanked the Centre for its efforts in evacuating 78 people, which included 44 Afghan Sikhs, from the war-torn Afghanistan and bringing them to India.
Singh, while sharing a video on Twitter, said that he was happy to learn that three copies of Guru Granth Sahib were flown to India from Kabul on the same flight.
"Happy to learn that 3 Swaroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji have reached New Delhi through a special flight from Kabul. 78 people including 25 Indian nationals and 44 Afghan Sikhs have also landed in India. Thank the Govt of India for their rescue efforts & pray for safety of all," he wrote on Twitter.

In the video shared by Singh, the copies of the Sikh holy scripture, shielded by umbrellas, can be seen being carried out of the Delhi airport after they were received by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday morning.

The Afghan Sikhs brought the holy scriptures on a flight that landed in New Delhi from Kabul earlier today.
The three of the last six Swaroops of the holy scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib, were evacuated from the violence-racked country on a flight to India.
The evacuation of the Swaroops from Afghanistan also marked the end of Sikhism in Afghanistan.
The pictures of Sikh men carrying three Swaroops of the ‘Living Guru’, packed in suitcases, on their heads and walking barefoot inside Kabul airport went viral Monday.
Sri Guru Granth Sahib is not merely a holy scripture for the followers of Sikhism. For them, it is their ‘Living Guru’ as it contains the Gurbani — the teachings of ten Gurus of Sikhism, including the founder Guru Nanak Dev ji.
