Bengal: Day ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's rally, Trinamool Congress shows strength in Kanthi

Kolkata/IBNS: The ruling Trinamool Congress, spearheaded by two of its senior leaders, on Wednesday showed its strength in West Bengal's Kanthi, where its former MLA Suvendu Adhikari will hold a counter rally as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) man the next day.

The rally was led by Trinamool MP Saugata Roy and West Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim.

The rally had gained importance as Adhikari, who is from Kanthi last weekend defected to the BJP in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

None of the other members of the Adhikari family, who are politicians in their own right and still Trinamool leaders, were present in the rally.

Adhikari's parliamentarian father and brother, Sisir Adhikari and Dibyendu respectively, said they were not invited to the rally.

Attacking Adhikari, Roy said, "Suvendu Adhikari is a traitor. He has sacrificed his ideology and joined the party of traitors. People will not forgive him."

"He has sacrificed his ideology for the fear of going to jail," said Hakim in the rally, referring to the surfacing of Adhikari's name in a scam case.

Taking a dig at the Trinamool's rally, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said, "The Trinamool is trying to make rallies with the leaders who are no longer relevant. This shows their condition."
