New Delhi/UNI: Former prime minister Manmohan Singh who is at present admitted at the AIIMS is stable and under care of a team of doctors at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the country's premier medical institution.

Singh was taken to AIIMS on Sunday night after he developed a febrile reaction to a new medication, the hospital sources told UNI.

Health investigations are underway in view of ruling out other causes of fever, while Singh is being provided utmost needed care.

Singh is under the observation of Dr Nitish Nayak and team , who has also been former PM's doctor earlier.

In his political career, Singh has been a Member of India’s Upper House of Parliament (the Rajya Sabha) since 1991, where he was Leader of the Opposition between 1998 and 2004.

Manmohan Singh was sworn in as Prime Minister on 22nd May after the 2004 general elections and took the oath of office for a second term on 22nd May 2009.
After the Congress party was defeated in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Singh resigned as the PM of the country after serving for ten years.

Current PM Narendra Modi-led his Bharatiya Janata Party to register a massive victory in the 2014 polls.

Modi stepped into his shoes and returned to power for the second term after BJP registered another massive victory in the 2019 general polls.
