PM Modi focussing only on corporate houses: Harish Rawat says over India’s rank in Global Hunger Index

Guwahati, Oct 16 : After India’s dismal rank in the Global Hunger Index slipped to 102nd rank, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Wednesday slammed Prime Minister Nardra Modi and said in Guwahati that poverty has increased but PM Narendra Modi is focusing only on corporate houses.

“Not only Pakistan, Bangladesh, even Nepal is ahead of India in the Global Hunger Index. This is a big issue. In fact after Modiji’s thinking over. The poverty has risen, in 2014, only 12 crore were below poverty line, now the number has gone up to 36 crore,” Harish Rawat said.

The former Uttarakhand Chief Minister said that means 'poverty has gone dipper and dipper and the same time Modiji focussing only on corporate houses of 300 big people'.

“They (corporate houses) are becoming richer and poorer becoming poorer. The middle class and lower middle class are worst sufferers,” Harish Rawat said.

India slipped from 95th rank in 2010 to 102nd spot in 2019 Global Hunger Index list of 117 countries that tracks hunger and malnutrition.

The report was jointly published by Concern Worldwide – an Irish aid agency and Welthungerlife – a German NGO.

Neighbouring countries like Nepal (73rd), Sri Lanka (66th), Bangladesh (88th), Myanmar (69th) and Pakistan (94th) are ahead of India in the Global Hunger Index.
