Puthumala landslide: Rescue operation for 7 missing persons goes on

Wayanad, Aug 14 (UNI) Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, the rescue operation at Puthumala in Meppadi where a heavy landslide occured recently, continued on the sixth day on Wednesday.

However, the rescue teams could not recover any bodies from beneath the mud today.

Official sources said seven more persons are still missing.

As many as 11 bodies were recovered so far from underneath the soil.

The rescue team have prepared location sketches and are trying their best to dig out the dead bodies.

Meanwhile, a crack has been found near the historical and age-old Edakal caves. About 40 families residing nearby this cave have been shifted to a relief camp, the sources said.
