Remarkable development in Bengal, but some sections trying to defame the state: Mamata

Kolkata, Jun 11 (UNI): West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said in the last eight years the state has seen remarkable growth and development, which has resulted in 228 per cent rise in the number of domestic tourists and 34 per cent rise in the number of foreign tourists to the state.

Inaugurating the newly constructed hotel ITC Royal Bengal off EM Bypass, she said: "Some sections are trying to defame the state and claiming Bengal is not peaceful."

She slammed them for the political propaganda and said if there is no tangible investments and development in Bengal, why were hotels in the city fully packed?

She also urged those present to carry the message of development in Bengal along, when they visit other states.

The CM termed the name of the hotel as ‘beautiful and visionary’ and also praised the soothing colour of the building. She hoped that the hotel will become a landmark in the city.

She said, “This property is a complete package for domestic as well as foreign tourists. This will be the pride of the city. It will prove to be one of the best in the world.”

She added, “I am missing Y.C. Deveshwar ji today. I consider him a guardian not just for me, but a guardian for West Bengal as well. It is sad that he is no longer with us, but I am sure his blessings are with us forever.”

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjiv Puri, chairman & managing director of ITC, said: “ITC will invest additional Rs 1,700 crore in Bangla, taking the total investment to Rs 5,700 crore – the highest in any state in India. All because of the trust in Mamata Banerjee and her leadership.”
