Chennai, Apr 25 (IBNS) : M K Stalin, leader of Tamil Nadu's opposition DMK, was arrested on Tuesday during a statewide strike, called by political parties to press for the demand of waiving of farmers' loans, media reports said.

Stalin was arrested at Thiruvarur, about 300 km off Chennai along with other top leaders of the party.

The strike was called after about 200 farmers from Tamil Nadu, who had spent a month in Delhi to demand waiving of loans because of severe draught in the state had to return empty handed.

According to reports, most of the shops and hotels remained closed in response to the strike call.
