Kolkata, Jan 10 (IBNS): Police on Saturday night booked a person in connection with the murder of a middle-aged woman in Kolkata, reports said.

According to reports, the suspect- Niaz Ahmed- was arrested from Picnic Garden area in Kolkata.

Body of 55-year-old Kamala Rajbanshi was recovered from her flat, where she lived with her 9-year-old grand daughter Soha Khan, at Naskarhat Uttarpara area under Kasba Police Station in south Kolkata on Jan 5.

After starting investigation into the case, police on Saturday made their first arrest.

One senior officer of the Kolkata Police's homicide department told IBNS, "We have arrested one Niaz Ahmed from Picnic Garden area. During interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the case. A son-in-law of the victim Sunil Singh Chowhan, who is absconding, strangled her to death with a saree, which the victim wore that time."

"From the very first, we suspected that someone, who was very familiar  to the victim, committed the murder. The motive of the murder could be cupidity. Our next aim is to catch the main accused- Sunil Singh Chowhan, we are searching for him," the officer further said.
