India deepens Africa outreach with INS Trikand’s high-profile Kenya visit
INS Trikand, a frontline guided missile frigate of the Indian Navy, arrived at Mombasa on April 7 as part of its ongoing deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region.
According to an official statement, the visit is aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation and deepening bilateral ties between India and Kenya.
High-level naval engagement
The port call coincides with the visit of Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, to Kenya.
During the visit, a series of professional, cultural and social engagements are planned. The Indian Navy will also hand over essential stores to the Kenya Defence Forces. In addition, the ship’s Commanding Officer is scheduled to call on senior Kenyan government officials.
Joint naval exercise planned
Upon departure from Mombasa, INS Trikand will participate in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with units of the Kenya Navy. The exercise is expected to facilitate the exchange of best practices and enhance interoperability between the two navies.
Aligned with India’s MAHASAGAR vision
The port call aligns with India’s strategic vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), which focuses on enhancing maritime security and regional cooperation.
