BJP claims victory in Bihar, PM Modi says people gave 'decisive decision' in choosing develoment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the people of Bihar has given a "decisive decision" in choosing development as the results of the Assembly polls so far shows that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading in 122 seats and the opposition alliance in 113 seats.

In a Hindi tweet, PM Modi said: "Bihar has taught the world the first lesson of democracy. Today Bihar has told the world again how democracy is strengthened. A record number of poor, deprived and women of Bihar also voted and today have also given their decisive decision for development."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted: "Every section of Bihar has rejected hollow promises, casteism and politics of appeasement, and has backed the NDA's development agenda."

 

Not under pressure: Election Commission denies RJD allegations

Amid allegations by Bihar oppositions' alliance, the Election Commission has denied that they are under pressure by the ruling party.

"We are not under any pressure... results have been declared only on 146 seats," the Election Commission told the media regarding the Rashtriya Janata Dal's claim that it has "won" 119 seats. 

NDA maintains lead, opposition alliance narrows gap

As the counting for votes marches aheadin Bihar Election Results, the ruling NDA is leading in 126 seats and the opposition alliance in 110 seats. The BJP is leading in 74 seats and the JDU in 45. The RJD is ahead in 73 seats, the Congress in 20 and the CPI-ML in 11 seats.

The Election Commission on Tuesday said there has been 'glitch-free counting' of votes so far in the Bihar assembly elections for 243-seats in the state Assembly which is was underway.

Till now more than one crore votes have been counted and the counting is expected to be over by late tonight because of the Covid protocaols.

Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhushan said at a press conference 'There has been an absolutely glitch-free counting process so far and no issues have come up. More than one crore votes have been counted in Bihar till now.'

He said the counting is not slow and is going at its normal pace. However, since but the number of EVMs as well as the postal ballots had gone up., the counting is expected to go late into the night because of Covid protocols.
'We have close to 63 per cent increase in polling booths in view of Covid protocols. Counting is taking place at 55 locations,' he said.

The poll panel clarified that EVMs are 'robust and tamper-proof'.
