You’re killing your phone battery without realizing it — The mistakes to stop right now

| @@indiablooms | Nov 08, 2025, at 10:09 am

You might be habituated to leave your phone plugged in overnight or draining the entire battery until recharging but slowly and steadily such ways of recharging will shorten the battery's life.

Though the phone batteries will eventually wear out at one point of time, wrong methods of recharging will accelerate the pace.

Here are some of the ways to protect your battery from early wear out

1. Keep charge between 20 percent to 80 percent

  • Lithium-ion batteries age fastest when kept at 0 percent or 100 percent for long.
  • Avoid overnight charging.

2. Use original or certified chargers

  • Cheap cables or adapters can deliver unstable current and damage cells.

3. Avoid fast charging all the time

  • Use normal charging whenever possible; fast charging generates heat.

4. Unplug once full

  • Continuous trickle charging after 100 percent stresses the battery.

5. Keep the phone cool

  • Heat is the biggest battery killer.
  • Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or in a car.

6. Don’t charge while gaming or using GPS

  • High processor load and charging creates overheating.
