Kolkata/Guwahati, Apr 1 (IBNS): The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), along with the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) felicitated the first batch of 500 successful candidates from the north-eastern region of India, who have completed their industry oriented training course under the National Skill Certification and Monetary Reward Scheme (branded as STAR).

The scheme was launched by the Finance Minister on Aug16 and is being implemented on a pan-India basis by NSDC. All the successful candidates are skilled in the BPO trade and are now STAR scheme certified.

The felicitation ceremony took place during a skill conclave – ‘Skill Development in Telecom Sector - Mapping the North East’.

These candidates have been trained by Orion Edutech, a training partner of NSDC in partnership with Aanjaybee Infotech Ltd., one of the largest and first of its kind BPOs in the North East. Aanjaybee would recruit all the 1000 candidates who have been assessed so far out of which 500 have been certified today.

Apart from dignitaries and successful candidates, the event also witnessed the presence of Principals of leading colleges, representing the academic community, who were keen to understand the skill initiatives and role they can play in implementing the same in their institutions.

On behalf of NSDC, Atul Bhatnagar, Chief Operating Officer, NSDC said, “I would like to congratulate each and every successful candidate on this momentous occasion. This is a key milestone under STAR, an initiative which is in line with the National Skilling Mission. Every certified candidate is now a part of the skilled workforce which is the pride of our nation. I strongly encourage more young women and men, especially from the seven sisters (states) to join the STAR scheme and build a better future for themselves and the nation.”

Addressing the audience as the Chief Guest, Lt. Gen. S.P. Kochhar (Retd.), AVSM, SM, VSM, CEO of Telecom Sector Skill Council said: “My heartiest congratulations to the students and best wishes for their future. I would like to thank Orion Edutech, Anjaybee Infotech and the assessment agencies who have put their best foot forward in making this phase of the program a big success. While over 23,610 people have enrolled with Telecom SSC under the STAR scheme, I am glad to announce that a cumulative sum of over Rs. 43,20,000 is already transferred to the bank accounts of certified candidates.”

He presented the successful candidates with their certificates during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Clement, CEO, Orion Edutech said, “We are extremely elated with the response that we have received in the first phase of our program. It was an experience and a matter of pride for us to have trained these young candidates and prepare them for a better career ahead.”

“We now aim to expand our program to regions like Patna and Shillong as well and hope to receive a good response from candidates there," he added.
