Meet Lisa: Odisha TV channel launches AI created news anchor

| @indiablooms | Jul 10, 2023, at 06:42 pm

In a revolution in the news industry, Odisha-based private TV channel OTV on Sunday launched the first Artificial Intelligence or AI created news anchor, named Lisa, media reports said.

Dressed in traditional handloom saree, Lisa, who has the ability to speak multiple languages, was programmed to deliver news in Odia and English on the television network and digital platform.

The company statement reads, "Efforts are underway to make Lisa more proficient in Odia in the coming days. You can find and follow Lisa on all the prominent social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, among others."

The AI news anchors are capable of delivering news at a higher degree of accuracy and emotion.

Like Lisa, the anchors are models which are computer generated.

Reports say, some AI anchors are also capable of answering to the viewers in real time.

WHO warns over AI-based tools

As excitement builds throughout health and information systems worldwide over the rich potential benefits of new tools generated by artificial intelligence (AI), the UN health agency on Tuesday called for action to ensure that patients are properly protected.

Cautionary measures normally applied to any new technology are not being exercised consistently with regard to large language model (LLM) tools, which use AI for crunching data, creating content, and answering questions, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned.

“Precipitous adoption of untested systems could lead to errors by healthcare workers, cause harm to patients, erode trust in AI, and thereby undermine or delay the potential long-term benefits and uses of such technologies around the world,” the agency said.

As such, the agency proposed that these concerns are addressed and clear evidence of benefits are measured before their widespread use in routine health care and medicine.
