MediaTek, the world’s number one provider of mobile chipsets, on Wednesday announced the launch of the Dimensity 9600 Pro, its latest flagship smartphone system-on-chip (SoC).

The flagship SoC marks a major technological milestone by adopting TSMC’s new 2nm process node. MediaTek, which was the first company to announce that it had successfully developed a chip using TSMC’s 2nm process, said the Dimensity 9600 Pro demonstrates its continued focus on semiconductor innovation.

With next-generation silicon now part of the Dimensity lineup, the Dimensity 9600 Pro is designed to deliver flagship performance and power efficiency while enabling advanced agentic AI experiences.

“AI is central to the smartphone experience, and devices need greater performance, efficiency, and intelligence to keep pace with rapidly evolving user demands,” said JC Hsu, corporate senior vice president at MediaTek and general manager of the Wireless Communications Business Unit.

“The Dimensity 9600 Pro meets these demands with a Native AI architecture and dual improvement in performance and power efficiency to deliver new agentic AI experiences,” he added.

Improved Compute Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro features a 2+3+3 All Big Core CPU architecture, designed to deliver faster and more responsive performance while reducing multi-core power consumption by up to 61 per cent.

The CPU comprises two C2-Ultra cores clocked at up to 4.55GHz, three C2-Pro big cores running at up to 4.35GHz, and three C2-Pro big cores operating at up to 3.1GHz.

According to MediaTek, the chipset delivers up to 17 per cent higher single-core performance and up to 15 per cent higher multi-core performance compared with the previous generation.

Advanced AI Experiences

The Dimensity 9600 Pro features a dual-NPU architecture and MediaTek’s Agentic AI Engine, designed to power the next generation of on-device AI capabilities.

The second-generation Super Efficient NPU reduces power consumption for always-on AI by up to 40 per cent, while the NPU 1090 delivers up to 51 per cent higher LLM prefill performance and 55 per cent higher token generation per watt.

The chipset also supports complex on-device AI applications, including models with up to 30 billion parameters.

These capabilities are designed to enable agentic AI functions such as analysing on-device data, providing proactive assistance and delivering personalised responses based on user preferences.

The AI Computing Fusion Architecture combines CPU and NPU resources to create a foundation for AI computing. It is supported by a 34.5MB cache and, for the first time in the Dimensity platform, LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage.

The upgraded Dimensity Scheduling Engine coordinates hardware and software resources to intelligently allocate computing power, memory and energy, helping smartphone manufacturers deliver responsive and power-efficient devices capable of running multiple applications in the background.

Smoother Gaming

The Dimensity 9600 Pro integrates the G2-Ultra NX GPU, which MediaTek says delivers up to 27 per cent higher peak performance, 24 per cent lower power consumption at peak performance and 18 per cent faster ray tracing.

The chipset supports on-device gaming at up to 185 frames per second, while the new MediaTek Dimensity Neural Graphics Architecture combines GPU and AI computing capabilities.

MediaTek HyperEngine further optimises gameplay to deliver smoother and more immersive high-resolution gaming experiences.

High-Quality Imaging

The Dimensity 9600 Pro also features the Imagiq 1290 ISP and a new Dimensity AI Imaging Fusion Architecture, combining ISP and NPU capabilities for advanced computational photography and content creation.

The chipset supports NPU-powered 60fps motion capture and introduces 4K 240fps native direct-output ultra-slow-motion video to the Dimensity platform.

It also supports 4K60 AI True Color Tone, 4K120 cinematic log and 17-stop dynamic range imaging, enabling high-quality photo and video capture across a range of shooting conditions.

MediaTek Dimensity 9600M

Alongside the Dimensity 9600 Pro, MediaTek also introduced the Dimensity 9600M, an upcoming chipset aimed at bringing flagship-level performance and power efficiency to a wider range of users.

The Dimensity 9600M combines MediaTek’s high-performance computing cores and power-efficiency technologies with its latest hardware and software capabilities across AI, imaging, gaming and everyday performance.

The chipset incorporates the Agentic AI Engine and Dimensity Scheduling Engine, while its NPU supports advanced on-device AI features, including always-on perception and real-time AI-enhanced imaging.

Its ISP supports professional-quality imaging and real-time tracking, while MediaTek HyperEngine enables gaming at up to 185fps.

Advanced connectivity technologies are also designed to provide fast and reliable mobile experiences.

Together, MediaTek said, these technologies are designed to deliver a responsive, intelligent and immersive smartphone experience while maintaining power efficiency.

The first smartphones powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M are expected to launch this quarter.
