Kolkata: Shiraz celebrates its 75 years with team Egoler Chokh

Kolkata, August 3 (IBNS): Shiraz Golden Restaurant on Tuesday celebrated seventy five years of its establishment with the cast and crew of the upcoming Bengali movie, Egoler Chokh.

Shiraz was the first restaurant to introduce the Mughlai cuisine in Kolkata way back in 1941.

Initially it began its journey as a little eatery called the Taj Hotel.

In a decade-and-a-half, it had renamed itself as Shiraz Golden Restaurant.

Recollecting his childhood memoirs about Shiraz Tollywood actor Saswata Chatterjee, who plays the character Shobor in the film said: “I am hearing the name of Shiraz since my birth, it is one of the oldest brands in Kolkata.These are the oldest brands which I look for, they are the actual brands to me than the new ones.”

Saswata, who plays the lead role in the film finds no similarity between the character Shobor and himself, he feels that he loves the pleasure of having food more than that of his character Shobor in the film. Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee

“I don't restrict myself from food even when i am shooting,” he added.

Director of Egoler Chokh, Arindam Sil said: “Shiraz is my favorite. It has become a part of the life of all people in Kolkata.I feel happy that the team of Egoler Chokh is present with Shiraz on this very special day.”


Sharing his experience on Shiraz the director said: “Shiraz continued to provide an excellent service to people in all these years. During my college days I used to come to Shiraz very often."


Ishtiaque Ahmed, one of the partner's of Shiraz Golden Restaurant said that this is the third generation who is involved with Shiraz and currently they are having more than two hundred people employed in its outlets across the city.


Talking about the taste of biriyani of Shiraz, he said: “The formula of the taste was made originally introduced by late Shamshuddin, one of the founders  and now we are carrying it further.”
