Jammu and Kashmir schools resume after a year for classes 9th to 12th

The classes resumed with partial attendance of students while in some schools the students attended the classes in two shifts amid precautionary measures to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

The resumption of class work in some schools was delayed as the schools were designated as exam centres by the Service Selection Board (SSB).

The class work has already started in colleges and universities in Kashmir and the classes are being taken in shifts or groups.

As per a government order the, class work from classes 1st primary to 8th will commence from March 8.

However teachers have been directed to report to their respective institutions from March 1 to make preparations for resumption of classes.

“In some schools the teachers divided the students in two groups wherein one group attended the classes during the first half and another group of students attended the classes in the second half of the day,” a school teacher said. The students were joyous to rejoin the classes after a gap of one year.

“It was the need of the hour to resume the classes, we were feeling disconnected from our studies for the past one year. The online classes didn’t prove fruitful for us because of the slow speed of the internet,” said Shaista, a class 10th student.

The students were seen taking all precautionary measures in the schools. The school management had also put in place all the necessary arrangements in order to adhere to the precautionary measures of covid19.

The director school education Kashmir, Muhammad Younis Malik, visited some schools in Srinagar outskirts to inspect the arrangements.

"I visited the schools in Khimber, Gulab Bagh and other adjoining areas. The schools have put in place proper arrangements,” Malik said.
