Google Health App 5.02 update: New features for sleep, fitness and nutrition tracking

Tech major Google has begun rolling out the  5.02 version of the Google Health app, providing fresh features to users.

"The rollout will continue over the next week in phases depending on carrier and device," google said in a blogpost.

"With your feedback, we are committed to continuously improving the Google Health app, and this release builds on improvements in the prior 5.01 release," the blogpost said.

Google has unveiled both Android 5.02 and iOS 5.02 versions of the app.

Expanded Metrics and Customization on “Today” Tab

Users can now access an expanded view of focus metrics on the Today dashboard, allowing more data to be displayed without swiping or switching tabs. The feature can be enabled via the pencil icon by selecting “Expanded view.”

The update also improves metric management, enabling users to reorder items more easily. In edit mode, tapping a metric now allows it to be replaced directly with another selection.

Health Tab Enhancements

On Android, users can now drag and drop charts to reorder Key Metrics in the Health tab through the Customize option. The feature will be available on iOS in a future update (v5.03).

Sleep Tracking Improvements

The Sleep section has received multiple enhancements, including improved alignment of the Restlessness bar with sleep stage graphs for better correlation between awake periods and sleep stages.

Naps recorded on Android are now organized into separate tabs within the Sleep Score view for easier tracking over time. This feature will roll out to iOS in version 5.03.

The update also includes full support for deleting sleep sessions and fixes an issue affecting the editing of sleep data.

Fitness and Activity Updates

Hourly activity tracking has been reintroduced, allowing users to view step goals per hour in both the Today and Health tabs. The feature can be added via customization options.

Several bug fixes have also been implemented, including corrections for exercise summaries where steps and distance were previously reported as zero in certain manually logged activities. Issues with inaccurate distance reporting for automatically detected bike rides have also been addressed.

Nutrition Updates

Food search has been improved with faster results and clearer display of serving units and calories. On Android, macronutrient estimates are now visible before logging food entries, with iOS support coming soon.

The Nutrition tile on the Today dashboard has also been redesigned to show calorie intake and remaining calories more clearly.

Log Management Enhancements

Users can now delete individual exercise, food, and weight logs synced from partner apps directly within Google Health, without navigating to Privacy Center.

Logs imported via Health Connect or Apple Health will redirect users to the respective platforms for deletion, while directly integrated logs can be removed within Google Health itself. Future updates are expected to enable full deletion within the app without cross-platform dependencies.
