Guwahati, Feb 2 (IBNS): With an aim to bring alive a blend of contrasting colours and traditional motifs that reflects true Assam, designer Sanjukta Dutta showcased a unique collection in her debut solo show at the Lakme Fashion Week 2017 in Mumbai, with Bollywood actress Priety Zinta walking in exquisite Mekhla Chador.

The collection replete with both traditional and contemporary motif’s and the fabric rendered in black, gold, silver and red tones had Kolkata and Sutradhor motifs weaved beautifully to present the true face of today’s Assam.

Sanjukta’s collection showcased a balance of infused traditional Assamese motifs with stylish trends to the most graceful piece of garment, the Mekhela Chador.

To celebrate her love affair for Assamese Silk, Sanjukta Dutta for the first time ever introduced sarees and lehenga cholis made from Assamese Silk to her collection.

Her introductory collection saw a magical blend of traditional aesthetics with modern accents to each of her ensemble.

Speaking on her debut solo show at the Lakme Fashion Week, designer Sanjukta Dutta said, "This year, through my collection at Lakme on the Sustainable and Textile day."

“I wanted to showcase the mouldings of Assamese silk into various attires. I brought in new design sensibilities, whilst preserving the traditional designs from the region. I kept several motifs that are seen on traditional textiles of the North-East intact as they are traditional, beautiful and hold symbolic meaning,” Dutta said.

Bollywood's dimple queen, Preity Zinta brought alive the magic as a showstopper in a stunning Mekhela Chador.

“This is the first time that I have ever been draped in a Mekhela Chador and its just amazing. The fabric, the weaves and the colours are beautifully encompassed to bring out this beautiful ensemble,” Dutta said.

Designing is an in-built art and Sanjukta has the flair for weaving the Mekhela Chador.

While the vibrancy of the Bodo and Miri communities creates a vibrant canvas through different flower and traditional motifs for each of her ensemble, her collection reflected a style ethos that brought out a vibrant canvas to this couture collection.
