Pune, Jul 6 (IBNS) Noted actor Pallavi Joshi has resigned as member of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society in support of the agitation by the students.

The students are demanding removal of mini screen actor Gajendra Chauhan as chairman of the institute.

Joshi said her decision was based on a  "principled stand".

She said she has written to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry saying she does not wish to be part of the FTII faculty .

"I have resigned from the FTII society because of this cloud of negativity. What is the point of being in the society if the students are disgruntled. If this is how it will be then we will just have compromised filmmakers and cinematographers and I refuse to be a part of this," she said.

The national award winner  actor was recently nominated to the FTII Society by the Centre.

The students' agitation, going for 25 days, has received the support of many leading cinema personalities.
