Thane/UNI: Medical professionals from Thane have sought insurance cover from the state government.

In a memorandum to the Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, the Thane Chapter IMA President Dr Dinkar Desai has said insurance cover be provided for those in health care in the private sector on the lines of the Central government and Delhi and the Haryana government.

In his memorandum copies, which where given to the media on Friday, Dr Desai said that most of the hospitals in Thane city were dealing with emergency and regular works, while a Thane Rapid Action Corona Team has also been formed.

Nearly 50 doctors were assisting the medical team of TMC and along with the TMC the IMA has formed medical helpline where 60 consultants and specialists were available for telephonic consultation during this period of pandemic.

However, he wanted the minister to address some of the issues which include insurance cover to the doctors.

IMA President has also sought protection gears to the health care workers including N95 masks, PPE, Sanitizers, Sodium Hypochlorite etc.

He has also further demanded total immunity to medical fraternity from any kind of medico-legal complaints by patients undergoing treatment in any hospital for non-corona complaints and later complaining of acquiring corona infection due to the hospital stay.

He further said, "Mmerely clapping or issuing notice under section 188 will not not do but reassurance from the government and patting with equipment will instill the courage in medical fraternity to fight against a long battle of Corona'."
