Hyderabad/IBNS: Telangana has joined several states in citing a shortage of vaccines against coronavirus and has written to Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan stating the stocks would last only for three more days.

In a letter sent to Bhushan on Saturday, Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar asked for 30 lakh doses of vaccines for the next 15 days.

The letter said that the number of vaccinations crossed 1.15 lakh per day on Friday and the state wants to increase this capacity to 2 lakh per day.

Meanwhile, 'Tika Utsav' or vaccine festival is being organised across the country from Sunday to inoculate a maximum number of eligible people against the virus.

The mass vaccination programme will be conducted from April 11-14 as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to the chief ministers of all states and union territories during a meeting over the coronavirus situation.

Till Sunday morning, India's cumulative vaccination coverage exceeds 10.12 Crores.

However, several states like Punjab, Rajasthan and Maharashtra have also warned about fast-depleting coronavirus vaccine stocks.
