PM Modi, Chief Ministers to get Covid-19 vaccine in second phase
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive coronavirus vaccine in the second phase of the country-wide immunisation drive along with chief minister and MPs and MLAs over 50, reported the media.
According to reports, health workers and other frontline workers have shown reluctance in taking the vaccine shots, fearing side effects.
NITI Aayog member VK Paul, who heads a government committee on vaccine strategy, said the health workers who are not taking vaccine shots meant for them are not fulfilling "societal responsibility".
"Please understand the whole world is clamouring for vaccines. If our healthcare workers, our doctors and nurses, if they are declining to take it, I feel sorry. I plead with them, on behalf of the government, because we don't know what shape this pandemic will take going forward," Paul was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters.
The vaccine drive was launched on January 16, after the government gave nod to Astrazeneca-manufactured Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin. In the first phase, the government aimed to vaccinate 30 crore people, including 3 crore health workers.
Reports said states are struggling to meet the vaccination target set by the Centre. So far, "Adverse events" have been reported in 0.18 per cent of recipients, and only 0.02% cases required hospitalisation from side effects.
