Beijing, Dec 29 (IBNS): World's oldest male giant panda, Pan Pan, died on Wednesday in China's Sichuan Province, according to media reports.

The 31-year old giant panda was suffering from cancer, reports said.

The giant panda, native to south central China, according to Wikipedia, has large, distinctive black patches around its eyes, over the ears, and across its round body.

According to various sources and Wikipedia, the giant panda typically lives around 20 years in the wild and up to 30 years in captivity. A female named Jia Jia was the oldest giant panda ever in captivity, born in 1978 and died at an age of 38 on October 16 2016.

Pan Pan fathered 25 per cent of world's giant pandas in captivity, reported Chinese News Agency Xinhua.
