Maharashtra: Thane reports highest single-day COVID-19 spike

Thane/UNI: As many as 201 Covid-19 cases were detected on Thursday in this district, the highest single-day spike in the number of pandemic patients, an official report stated on Friday.

Seven individuals, including five from Thane city, succumbed to the contagion on Thursday hence taking this district's death toll to 87.

Out of the new cases, the city reported a record 70 cases while the remaining patients were found in the suburbs of Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and Mira Bhayander.

Now, this district has a total of 2,903, out of which, the highest 974 and 913 cases are in the limits of Thane and Navi Mumbai civic bodies, respectively.

While, there are 391 and 286 infected individuals in the respective suburbs of Kalyan-Dombivili and Mira-Bhayandar, report apprised, adding that the Thane Rural, Ulhasnagar and Badlapur civic councils have become a cause of concern with 129, 79 and 75 cases, respectively.

The remaining cases are from the powerloom town of Bhiwandi (33) and Ambernath (23). Six persons, including policemen and lockup inmates, were among those who contracted the contagion in Ambernath.

Meanwhile, Shahapur MLA Daulat Daroda is observing quarantine after he came into contact with a positive patient.
