Inoculation of 18- 44 age group likely to be delayed in Odisha
Bhubaneswar/UNI: Inoculation of people in the age group of 18 to 44 years scheduled to start from May 1 next is likely to be delayed in Odisha.
Odisha State Health and Family Welfare Director Bijay Panigrahi said the possibility of commencement of vaccination from May 1 is remote as the government has not yet received Covaxin and Covishield vaccines for the inoculation programme.
Panigrahi said the date for the third phase of the vaccination would be announced after the government received the vaccines.
The state government has placed orders for 10.34 lakh doses of Covaxin and 377 lakh doses of Covishield.
Panigrahi hoped that the Union government would provide the Covaxin in May but the supply of Covishield would be delayed.
As decided earlier, registration on COWIN portals for vaccination will start from Wednesday onwards. However, the slot bookings and appointment for the vaccination will be informed later.
He said as many as 88,770 people were given shots on Monday. Today the vaccination drive is on in 600 centres spread over all the 30 districts of the state.
The state has now a stock of 1.23 lakh doses of Covishield and 3.65 lakh doses of Covaxin. While the Covaxin will last for four weeks the Covishield will meet the requirement for Tuesday only.
