France: Govt tightens restrictions amid fear over Omicron spread
Paris: France has announced stricter restrictions to curb COVID-19 spike amid rising concern over Omicron spread.
From 3 January, remote working will become compulsory for those who can and public gatherings will be limited to 2,000 people for indoor events, reports BBC.
The news comes as France recorded more than 100,000 new infections on Saturday - the highest number reported in the country since the pandemic began, the British media reported.
Meanwhile, France Prime Minister Jean Castex has not announced New Year's eve curfew.
According to France's public health authority, over 1,600 Covid patients were admitted in hospitals.
As the number of Omicron cases continue to spread in Europe, several countries have already issued Covid restrictions.
Additional restrictions have been announced in Germany and Greece to stem the tide of positive cases.
