Disha Eye Hospitals organises ‘Draw For Sight’ to promote eye donation awareness
Kolkata/IBNS: Disha Eye Hospitals and Prova Eye Bank organised ‘Draw For Sight’, a drawing competition for school students, at the hospital's New Town branch, on Saturday as part of the 41st National Eye Donation Fortnight 2026.
The competition aimed to create awareness among students about eye donation and the importance of the gift of sight.
Dr. Debasish Bhattacharya, Chairman & Managing Director of Disha Eye Hospitals, said, “Eye donation is one of the most meaningful ways of giving someone the gift of sight and a renewed opportunity to experience the world. Through 'Draw For Sight', we wanted to engage young minds in this important cause and encourage them to understand the profound impact that eye donation can have on another person's life."
The competition was divided into two categories, with students from Classes 1 to 7 participating in Category 1 and those from Classes 8 to 12 in Category 2. Participants interpreted the theme of eye donation through paintings and artwork.
"Art provides a powerful and expressive medium to communicate such a meaningful message, and we are delighted to see students use their creativity to spread awareness about the importance of eye donation," Dr. Bhattacharya added.

More than 60 students from 17 schools across Kolkata took part in the competition. Students from The Newtown School, IEM Public School, Delhi Public School, Megacity and La Martiniere for Girls, among others, participated in the event.
Dr. Subhendu Kumar Boral, Vitreo-retinal consultant of Disha Eye Hospital, said, "Our hospital has taken this initiative, which is great, as drawing develops physical, mental and character-related wellbeing. There might be some great upcoming future artists among these students. It is really great to see them participate from so many different schools across. I wish them all the best."
The initiative provided the students with a platform to express their understanding of eye donation through art while encouraging awareness about the importance of donating eyes and helping restore vision.
The competition was organised as part of the 41st National Eye Donation Fortnight, to engage the younger generation in conversations around eye donation and promote greater awareness of the cause.
