COVID-19 cases in Netherlands rise by 77 to 265, death toll stands at 3
Brussels/Xinhua/UNI: The official total of number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Netherlands rose by 77 on Sunday to 265, and two more patients have died.
Both of the dead patients had serious underlying medical problems. One is an 86-year-old man who was admitted to a hospital in Uden and the other is a man aged 82 from the Zuyderland Medical Center in Sittard-Geleen, according to the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
The source of their infection is still under investigation, it added.
Thus far, three people affected by the virus have died in Greece. The first victim due to a coronavirus infection was reported on Friday in the country, when an 86-year-old man succumbed to the disease.
Among the 265 patients, 144 have been traveling abroad and 131 patients have been to northern Italy. In addition, 74 people were infected through a diagnosed patient, according to RIVM.
The majority of patients are under home isolation while 36 patients have been admitted to the hospital. The municipal health service (GGD) and hospitals are conducting contact investigations for all new patients, it said.
On Feb. 27, a 56-year-old man from the southern province of North Brabant became the first person in the Netherlands to test positive for COVID-19.
