Hyderabad/UNI: In a step closer to developing COVID-19 vaccine, the clinical trials began at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Monday.

The first dose of the first indigenous vaccine--COVAXIN- being developed by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) was administered to two health volunteers.

The vaccine is likely to be tested on 30 healthy volunteers drawn from various parts of Telangana.

The volunteers will remain in the ICU care after the vaccine administration for some days before being discharged.

Their health condition and interaction with the vaccine will be monitored remotely and through physical checkups, according to the NIMS doctors.
