According to reports, Bengal's Covid-19 tally has mounted to 83,800, including 22,992 active cases, 1846 deaths and 58,962 discharges.

A bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department stated that in the last 24 hours, 2,078 Covid-19 patients were discharged from different health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate to 70.36 per cent from 70.24 per cent.

State officials said that 2,875 persons were kept in government quarantine centres and 30,201 people are under home surveillance in the state while 16,44 persons are in 106 government-run safe homes.

Meanwhile, a TMC councilor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation in Kolkata's satellite town Salt Lake succumbed to coronavirus at a private hospital near EM Bypass on Wednesday morning.

Mourning his death, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Saddened at the demise of our colleague and councillor of Ward 6, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, Subhash Bose. One of the many brave souls who risked his life while working in the frontline. My condolences to his family, well wishers and friends."
