New Delhi: The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal strengthened overnight and developed into a cyclonic storm named Mocha, according to IMD.

The storm is expected to make landfall between Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh and Sittwe in Myanmar, the weatherman said.

The cyclone, named Mocha by Yemen and pronounced as 'Mokha', is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the Andaman Island chain.

As of 8:30 am, the cyclonic storm was located approximately 510 km southwest of Port Blair, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The storm is likely to develop into a severe cyclonic storm by tonight, it said.

"It would reach its peak intensity on the evening of May 13," the IMD said.

The IMD has stated that the cyclonic storm, Mocha, is likely to weaken slightly starting from the morning of May 14.

It is projected to cross the southeast coast of Bangladesh and the north coast of Myanmar, specifically between Cox's Bazar and Kyaukpyu.

The maximum sustained wind speed is estimated to be around 120-130 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 145 kmph.
