Ujjivan Small Finance Bank commences operations in Kolkata

Kolkata, Apr 28 (IBNS): Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ujjivan Financial Services Ltd. on Friday announced the commencement of its banking operations in Kolkata with the launch of six branches.

These bank branches are located at key locations in Park Circus, Dumdum, Salt Lake, Tollygunge and Dakshineswar. The sixth branch at Matiagacha is Ujjivan SFB’s first Unbanked Rural Centre (URC) branch in West Bengal. 

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank (Ujjivan SFB) had commenced its banking operations in February 2017 with pilot branches in Bengaluru. Today, with 25 branches, Ujjivan SFB has established its presence across Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata.

Over the past decade, Ujjivan has built a strong presence in Kolkata with 13 microfinance branches catering to 1.1 lakh customers. The existing Ujjivan customers in the State would be on-boarded as bank customers. The process of on-boarding over 31,500 microfinance customers has already been initiated, while the transition for the rest will take place in a phased manner.

Ujjivan started its operations in West Bengal in May 2007. Since then, Ujjivan has covered 18 districts in West Bengal with 53 branches, catering to over 5.3 lakh customers.

Speaking at the launch of Ujjivan SFB’s banking operations in Kolkata, Samit Ghosh, MD & CEO, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Ltd.said, “After serving our customers as a microfinance entity for over a decade, I am pleased to now announce the launch of our banking operations in Kolkata today.In less than three months of ourbank launch, we have established our presence across all four regions - South, North, West and East India. In the coming months, we will continue to increase our banking footprint across the country to serve thetarget customer segments.
